  • another possible new tow rig.

    I'm using it this weekend to see if I like it. 99 f350 crew cab DRW. Triton v10 with a 5 speed manual. So far, ehh. Picked it up last night from my buddy and going to get the trailer I was getting 10.4 mpg. Has plenty of power but not sure how I feel about the v10. Going up to northern mass for the weekend and then to vt. We shall see I guess.

    I don't understand a v10, if you need something that big then you should have got a diesel. Why would anyone not want more power and better mpg that a diesel brings?

      eek. 10.4 without pulling anything. idk man. idk what youre planning on spending, but i would lean towards a diesel if youre going to be spending a good amount of money on a tow rig imo. also, depending on how often youre going to be pulling your rig, youd probably be able to pick up a really nice big 8 cylinder gas truck, f350, chevy 2500, etc. all in all its what youre going to be towing with and driving everyday so if you really like it and can afford the gas, fuck it, buy it

        Im kinda jealous of the crew cab and dually...and stick dammit; but i wouldnt get the gas engine. The deisel gets better fuel mileage than that towing. I got about 13 or so towing my bronco but i may get better now (I think my truck was broken since i purchased it and have not towed since fixing it). Normal I get about 17.5 or so. My truck is not perfect it has dents all over but nothing major. It a 2000 F250 with the 7.3 and I paid $7000 with about 200000 on it. I would go for the diesel aparently they last forever. I have heard of many with over 600000 on them. I want that same truck but with the 7.3

            Nothing beats a cummins, 21 mpg unloaded and I've seen some with over 350,000 and still running like a champ, common rail 5.9s get even better mpg.

              as long as you steer clear of the newer 6.7 that gets 14mpg tops...

                i got 22mpg today. Maybe stay out of throttle like a nascar driver? And mine's a quad cab dually 4x4. My average is 17-18mpg when im driving around the maryland area, highway i get more. towing, i average 12mpg towing 10-12,000lbs, 9-10 mpg towing 14,000 - 19,000lbs

                  My friend had a similar truck, its was SRW, auto. Last trip to RC with him I was towing more weight, I smoked him up every hill and got almost double the MPG with my 12 valve Cummins... I don't think everyone needs a diesel but I bet there are gas trucks out there that get better milage with equal power.

                  You must be thinking of the new 6.7 Powerstroke... My new truck is a 6.7 Cummins and I get 16ish around town. Just took it to the Cape this weekend got around 19 on the highway (I kept hitting traffic, I bet it could get even better)... And I have heard of 3-5 mpg gains with deletes

                    Not buying it, not impressed at all, I was down shifting into 3rd to get up hills, I averaged 8.5 mpg.

                      i had a feeling you wouldnt be impressed when you said you were getting 10.4 without pulling. here comes the fun part tho, whatchya gonna get now??

                              Shane what year is yours? Isnt the emissions systems in the 2010s different the 2009? My buddys is a pig reguardless of the way he drives it...
