  • Light Pollution

So, ever wonder how much light pollution there REALLY is?

We have Long Island to thank for this one (and I imagine NYC)

This picture was taken at 1:30am, 30 second shutter. No moon visible (its only 9% full today anyway in the phase)

NOTE, 1:30am, this is not near sunrise, and the sun rises behind me in these pics anyway

a higher f-stop to bring the brightness down, you can really see the "band" of visible light pollution in this one. The fact the amount of light exists to be able to create the first picture regardless of camera setting is insane.

You don't realize how bad light pollution is where you live until you're in the middle of nowhere on a clear night. You can seriously see 100x more stars, it's amazing.

The sky in the desert in southern cali is like being on another planet compared to SW CT

          You're welcome.

And yes, it's absurd how much we can't see from this area. Looking at the sky in CO and JV have been some incredible sights in comparison.

It almost makes looking up in the North East a complete waste of time.

So true. Looking up at the stars in JV was ridiculous. I wanna go back

The stars you can see while on the ship is insane. There is essentially zero light. I love chilling outside my room and looking at the stars

Must be awesome, man. You look up around here and you can barely see Orion's belt in the winter.

That is disgusting. I hate it when Liz and i go to her sisters house and its lit up like that driving through manchester and vise versa driving from our Candia appt in the country (literally we have coyotes and deer in the back yard on a reg basis) driving towards Manchester. And manchester is no where near is bright as that.
