x2 follow the torque sequence and you shouldnt have any problems. Lube lockers are well worth the money. Scraping off old RTV is a pain in the ass.

I sort of can't follow the specs all I can do is use an allen wrench. My bolts that came with my diff covers are like 9.5mm recessed hex. I have both metric and SAE 1/2" drive hex sets for recessed hex bolts but literally nothing fits it and Napa wants $25 to special order one. So I think I will just stick to the one hex key that I found. Plus with lube lockers I figured $25 a pop for multiple uses or $10 per gasket with RTV. In the long run they just make more sense.
Jeeps don't get stuck ... they just take a nap when they are tired of being awesome

i never followed specs either. but they are only about 25 or 30 ft lbs IIRC which really isnt much. just tighten it hand tight but not an insane amount. chances are it wont leak.

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

I was following their specs the first time i used it, a snapped two of the gay little grade 5 bolts on my diff cover..... so now, it's just tighten them til they feel tight enough.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Whoever owned my jeep before me must have used like 5 tubes of RTV on each diff. It was all over the underside of the front axle. Took me like a half hour to scrape it all off with a razor blade.

9.5mm recessed hex? WTF? that sucks. What kind of diff covers are they? And I was pissed about my transfer case drain plugs being recessed hex.

Got my front one on today but my locker didn't show up so I will have to do it tomorrow at like midnight. I did, however get my carrier and all out and ready to be locked. I love these lube locker though. it was so easy to put on and it doesn't leak at all even though spec is 35ft lbs and it is only around 30. I also loved how it didn't warp or fold or anything during install which I can not say for any other gasket I have ever used.

why did you take the carrier out to instal the locker? wouldn't have been just as easy to install it with it in?

I got the locker in today and it seems to works, though it may need to be broken in a bit more are the clicking doesn't happen as easily as I have seen other peoples. But I did use HEAVY axle grease so I hope it will get better once it dissolves into the diff fluid.

I had to take the carrier out. Lower ratio gears even like 3.55 and up requires taking out the ring gear to get the center pin out. Some people cut a notch in one tooth to get it out, but I don't feel safe doing that and with 4.56 gears the entire ring gear covered the pin, not just the teeth. If you can I would recommend installing it in the axle but really it seems like it would be just slightly harder to do it in the axle. But you would not have to deal with getting it in and out which can be a real bitch. Mine required a ratchet strap, a crowbar, and 2 large hammers and some choice words but it came out and went in fairly uneventfully. Just to add to why I took it out I could 99.99999% not have ever gotten that damned roll pin in or out with it still in the axle.
