Airless tires?

Think these would be any good offroad?


How do to you mount a tire like this?
I guess they would have to be designed with an "air pressure" perminently integrated into the tire?

Im pretty sure these concept tires have been out for at least 5 years. I think they would be terrible offroad but that is just my completed uneducated opinion.

if they really do crinkle that much when running over something and they were made of a soft compound with aggresive tread i dont see why they would be bad . . . but if they really do compress that much how can they be good on a car?

those been out forever, you dont mount the rubber, its called a Tweel, you replace rim and the "tire" part all at the same time.

the cost probably outweighs its actual value.

main reason is they were noisy on the road. the flexible spokes vibrated at high speed. hence why the shift developing them for industrial/military. The other problem comes with lots of factories needing to be redesigned, new machines, process , same goes for tire shops, new balancing etc. inventory problems etc. then the rim choice... cant just swap rim deisgn to easy.

I saw them at SEMA two years ago on a Humvee were pretty cool but at the time IRC they were having a hard time with DOT approval to get the "consumer set" ready for mass production

If they could incorporate some sort of protection/tread for the sidewall, they would be moving in the right direction. But the way they are exposed now looks like they would quickly be thrashed.

Could be complete lack of weight compared to a pressurized tire.
