In all honesty, if it were free id run it, that is if I needed a rear end and did not " wheel more than anyone in the club"
Run it till it breaks, than when it does just make sure you take lots of pics so's we can all haz a chuckle.
When was the last time I wheeled? Prolly 6 months ago
does or did my jeep ever have a Dana Model 35? Nope, but im sure glad I never had to worry
So take all the jabs with a little modesty, no one is trying to insult your intelligence or credentials, but with all the examples of failure you can't possibly believe the idea of d35's being weak is something fabricateddirty30

I have seen axleshafts in small cars that are bigger around than the ones in a D35, and just about everything else on one is a pathetic joke. I know of one case of a gentleman snapping a shaft on 31's because his ABS kicked on.
I haven't broken one because well, I don't have one sincle my Jeep came with an 8.25, but even if my Jeep did have one when I bought it I wouldnt have stupid enough to keep it. I have seen a handful of them break in person and one person in another club I'm a member of broke 2 shafts in one day on 33's, and never was it from doing anything where they were asking for it.
If when you go wheeling your favorite activity is fishing broken pieces of shaft out of your rear axle then go ahead, you wont be disappointed and you will have a great time. If you like to actually drive then buy something else, why did you bother making the thread if you have already decided that a D35 is what you are going to run.
The only thing I can say is you are pretty dumb to put one in a wheeled Jeep after all the stuff everyone has tried to tell you.Last edited by iant333; 12-01-2010, 09:45 AM.01 XJ 3" on 33's and some new paint n stuff. Gone.

The worst part about this argument is the free aspect, as if it carries any weight. so what? it was free. big deal. keep looking for a week or two and I can promise you that you can find other free axles that are better than a D35. In the last year or so I ended up grabbing 2, count them 2, D60 rear ends as well as a D44 front for the grand total of free.99.
I advise you to keep looking. they are out there, believe me. I'm kinda the authority on breaking D35s, and I promise you that fixing them on the trail is not fun at all.
Granted, you are gonna do what you want, and thats fine. Just dont pout the day we all tell you "I told you so.""Watching you work on your Jeep is like watching a doctor operate on a cadaver...
