I absolutely hate college and am just going to finish with an associates degree in 2 1/2 years just so I have it... Im going to try to pursue a job in law enforcement and if all else fails work for my dad in the mortgage business.

why do i always hear the whole "its just a piece of paper" thing? I see it on facebook and stuff all the time about how people regret college because they cant find a job and how its worthless and all that. I dont get it. That "piece of paper" is going to get you a good job and especially going to set you apart from the person who doesnt have that "piece of paper." It is important.
Seeing pete in his job now makes me want to get college fuckin over with because he is making a decent paycheck. Not one that makes a couple hundred dollars every week either. Im tired of being fucking broke. I want that "piece of paper" so i can make dollar dollar bills yall.

I think thats the problem. Everytime I log into facebook its another time I wish I hadn't. Its so full of drama and bullshit. The only ones who regret college are the ones who don't pick their degrees wisely. The old saying is "do what you like so you can be happy". The fine print is "do something you like, but also something you can support yourself with". I'm a natural resources major. Am I a treehugger? No, but I like being outdoors and its a good field to be in with the whole "climate change" deal so I will be happy and be able to support myself. One of my friends is an english major. The problem with that is you can only really be an english teacher, if a school will hire you.

I don't regret my decision to go to college at all, I just went to the wrong school.

Graduation doesnt always necessarily mean guaranteed success. You can suck at something and still major in it.

Very good point. I just don't understand some people. I suck at chemistry and hate it, so I'd never be a chemistry major. I'd fail miserably and hate life. Yet I know people who are doing it. Then there is the opposite side. I know people who make 90 grand a year and a monkey would do better work. I work as a student and in our department there is a lady who gets paid $60,000 to answer phones. The dumb part is shes never at her desk to answer it.

i went to stockton as a business major. did i really want to do business? yes and no. If i had found the major i am in now, i would have been here from the start. Thats why I transfered to Penn Tech. I wanted an automotive type business and this degree is exactly that. am i the best mechanic out there? not even close. do i want to learn about cars? hell yes. I just find it funny that people all of the sudden hate college or question it because they cant find a job. Like Will said, maybe you chose the wrong major? maybe you really arent that good at what you majored in? maybe your character is just doosh baggish? who the fuck knows. Clearly you have done something wrong in your interviews. I just hate when people bitch about it to get sympathy. Getting a job is hard work. I am not even close to a perfect example but if i want something bad enough, im going to go for it.

you're right. If people had the same outlook on it as you do I think they would be more successful. To be honest my freshman year I wanted to quit. I went from a small highschool where I knew everybody to a huge college where I probably talked to about 2 people a day. There were weeks where I went without sleep, and days that I was so stressed it affected my memory. I would drive to school and not even remember it. I couldn't even find where I parked my damn jeep one day. I wanted to drop out so bad. I didn't though because I knew that was the easy way out, and I would forever regret it. I'm half kidding about my OP, its more of a rant about a stupid system then me hating college. Its just good to hear from people who have similar view points compared to what I hear everyday which is closer to that post about facebook. Its hard to try and do well when everyone around you talks so much about how they hate it and want to drop out. I even heard this one girl say shes only in college for the parties, and that she doesn't plan on getting a job in her major. How much stupider can someone get? If you have that much money to waste give it to me I'll buy some 37s.

A degree means you were willing to go through with what was needed...not that you are a master of your trade and an untapped resource.

I had to listen to 2 fat girls bitch about college next to me for an hour in the comp lab today. the one was pissed because she couldnt e mail a paper in or something. so guess what her solution was......drop out because it was a waste of time. i wanted to turn and smack her. and her friend was just feeding into it saying the same shit back. like if your internet isnt working, print the fucking thing out and slide it under the professors door with a note on it. i dont think the professor will be mad. Everyone wants to take the lazy way out, and believe me i will accuse myself first, instead of taking the extra step

i went to UD and double majored in Sociology and Psychology and graduated in four years, enjoyed every second of it that didn't have to do with actual schoolwork and worked my ass off a majority of the time because it was not by any means "easy", but i wouldn't trade it for the world. i chose my major because i want to help people make a better life for themselves, but if the lack of jobs in this market has taught me anything, it's that having a degree from legit degree from a decent college will help me out no matter what i want to do.

do i hope to eventually end up in the field that i majored in? of course. i haven't found exactly what i want to do yet but for now my degree will help me get a job that pays well and can get me on my feet/pay off some of my loans til i find a job i want. eventually i'll end up where i want to be because i got that veryyy expensive piece of paper.
