lol. in 1990 the us government passed a law making it very hard for the government to stop the building of religious buildings. now some people who passed that law are freaking o0ut about 51park. well they fail then
I do know people of the Muslim faith and as was stated earlier by someone else, they are regular people, nothing special about them.
Is the middle east only filled with people practicing that faith, no there are christians there that practice, and hindus, and many other faiths.
they have every legal and constitutional right to build there, I will not listen to a British man tell me what my country should be doing. This is The U.S of Fucking A and i feel no need to follow the british, who for the last 70 years have been following us.
The United States is not what we were 9 years ago, the country is weaker, the who world is weaker. Extremism seems to be on the rise around the world. how do you fight extremism? surely not with the same thing, it will fail.
who here has ever taken a taxi in NYC? was your cab driver nice? chances are he was muslim. I don't remember the statistics but there is a large percentage of them that are of that faith. have they set off any bombs? have they attacked Americans? oh shit they are Americans.
someone recently was saying all mosques are built as a sign of victory over the people they have conquered, Bull Shit. only a tiny percentage of Muslims believe in conversion by the sword, you think they conquered montana and every other state that has a mosque? nope!
Has anyone here been to Cordoba? I have and it is almost an oasis. it is in a city and you enter this place and it is serene and beautiful and relaxing. it is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen. It is no wonder that when it was ruled be Muslim people that I was a place of worship. maybe they wanted to name it that so that for people of the Muslim faith it could be a sanctuary for them from the hectic life that is NYC. a place for them to come and pray, a place for them to come and look at the devastation that was caused by extremism and they can work together against extremism. I do not know why, but I can think that is why they named it that.
P.S that building has already been in use for over a year by the group that wants to build the culture center.

i still dont get what this fact, mindset, or comment, that people keep regurgitating has to do with anything that is being discussed here.
oh, so the majority of muslims are not dangerous terroristic killers? I am sure that is striking news for all of us. let's be real here.
Phil... what if the government said " ya know what, guns are dangerous, we are outlawing ALL guns for civilians, tough shit."
They have been trying for fucking Years. Where have you been?
But I'll level with you Mike, you're right this is America and we have a bill of right to protect our freedoms, the first being the freedom to say anything, to print anything and to pray to any God you want, but New York City still sucks and if it sank to the bottom of the Atlantic, I'd be a very happy person. If they want to build a massive Mosque, cool for them. I don't agree with it and never will, and that is that.

Do I want to *insert terrible thing here* for what they do? yes.
this mosque is the latest big thing pertaining to the first amendment. yes, people have the right to do whatever the fuck they want, but this all comes down to abusing that right.
i can legally go into a predominantly black church wearing a white hood over my head, but ill probably get fucked for doing so. am i the only one able to apply common sense to how i exercise my rights as an American??
*technically i personally cannot do what i above mentioned, but i hope you get the point
winng. all the goddamned time.
**MY STATEMENTS AND/OR OPINIONS IN NO WAY REFLECT THOSE OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT.
Do I want to rip their heads off and shit down their throats for what they do? yes.

but why can't you?? isn't that free speech?? Laws are made limiting constitutional rights everyday, look at gun laws. This is no different. Limit that constitutional right in this situation.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It is a dilemma no doubt. Read the text.
Absolutely NO RIGHTS are being violated in telling someone they cannot build or modify a building***. No one is being told they cannot be muslim or they cannot pray. They are being told A building of worship of a specific religion cannot be placed in a certain area. If we were telling them they would all die if they prayed to Allah, or they would be barred from entering any building because of their religion, you are going against the First Amendment.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ABUSING A RIGHT. You either have it, or you don't. Are you people honestly this thick? Let them fucking pray to Allah, fine, do it.
***(Problem is, if they purchase the property, they can do whatever they want with it. Church and state separated for a reason. Like the West Boro Baptist Church, they are in extremely poor taste in their actions if they follow through with the building and maintaining of the property of the Mosque if that close to Ground Zero.)
No rights are being infringed and no rights are being abused. It is a matter of Respect and Common Sense; both of which the current world lacks in this day and age.
