mines doing the same thing now. the water pump and tstat were bad when i got this jeep and it had a junk autozone tstat in it, so i took the legit dealership one out of my 93 and put it in and flushed it. it was running great around 200 210 for like 3 weeks until one day i took a short trip to dunkin donuts down the street and it was running really hot, my lower hose had a slice and fluids slowly dripped out over time. so i put coolant in it and it was ok but now its running around 220 with the fan on driving but when its sitting idling it will almost overheat. t stat? air in the system? combination of the two? its got brand new hoses (with the springs in them) i havent had time to check it out but ill be traveling with it alot in the next couple weeks and want it running well. Will, your advice/ what you replaced to fix this would be appreciated. also what temp should i get for my tstat, or will they just give me the oe type one? thanks guysWatch your backhoe, I'm the John Deere man.

Sounds like the t-stat ray. Just get an OEM one. Air in the system will usually give you jumps in the themperature. Also a radiator flush might be needed. When your radiator scales up its bad for the heat transfer especially with air coolers. It wont hurt to give it a good flushI don't always drink orange juice, but when I do, I prefer to chew it. #madpulp

sweet, thanks. im planning on doing the tstat, flush, and new coolant and whatnot tomorrow. there was nothing in this thread about whether will solved the problem or not so i wanted to make sure before i threw parts at it/overlooked something. also ive mentioned this before, my coolant is like brown...even after i flushed it the first time and put in all new coolant it was back to brown in a week or so. is this normal? one or two people on here told me its normal but idk, my radiator is new and even in my 93 the fluid was bright green. idk, maybe im just overreacting. thanksWatch your backhoe, I'm the John Deere man.

No, you have a rust issue in the radiator. You flushed the fluid out of the radiator cap right? In order to get everything out flushing aganist the direction of flow will break up all that scale. Try that stuff you put in the radiator when you flush it out. It supposedly helps out with breaking up all that crap in there (directions are on the bottle if I remember correctly).
Wills issue was the electric fan. Make sure yours is coming on. Wills old fan was held together with hopes and dreams. We put a new fan from an older model cherokee and made a connector since it wasnt a `bolt in`. I dont remember correctly but I might have wired it wrong and it wasnt turning on (sorry Will, my bad). We just installed it and never tested it. Also make sure your shrouds are installed. They both really do serve a purpose besides just covering the fan. That little electric fan does a lot more then you think in there so check this first.
If the fan isnt spinning shut the Jeep down and spin it by hand. If it hard to spin its fried. If not, disconnect it and bench test it by putting 12 volts across it and try that.
I havent done a flush in a while but I need to. I thought that by the time I come back it will be cold enough outside that my Jeep wont run at 215 anymore
I hope this helpsI don't always drink orange juice, but when I do, I prefer to chew it. #madpulp

put in a new thermostat, used the radiator flush (as directed), and put new coolant/ got all the air out of the system and its running great. even had some extra time to hook up a new switch for my fan and my cb is up and running. thanks for the advice, jon.Watch your backhoe, I'm the John Deere man.
