  • SYE question

i have a NP231 transfer in a 2000 xj probably gonna be getting a 4.5 BDS suspension lift and me thinks that i may have drive line vibs. the slip yolk from advanced adapters says i may have to trim the shift forks. my question is, is there a certain year that the fork would not have to be cut? or do i have to open it up and see? and do you think ima get vibes? thanx in advanced

To answer your vibes question...there really is no solid answer. I'm on 4.5" of lift and don't have a SYE and get no vibes. If you can afford it I'd say do it, its not a bad thing to have.

You don't trim the shifter fork themselves you trim the shifter rail the shaft that the shifter rides on.
I do it first before I fully take the case apart.

Take that tail housing off but don't split the whole case yet.
Put it in 4 low I think that is when the rail sticks out the furthest.
Measure what it say to or just measure the room inside the new housing.
Cut it off with a cut off wheel they are pretty hard I don't know if a hacksaw will work.
The new housing should fit flush and not hit the shifter shaft.

And that is it the rest is pretty straight forward.

I did the first one without reading the manual and I took it apart twice thinking I did something wrong before I read the manual and relized I had to trim the shifter rail.
      RTFM!
