  • WHATS INVOLVED...

    in replaceing a carrier in a cry 8.25 axle.

    im going to try and put my locker in, but im unsure if its even possible for me to do since i dont wanna fuck up the spacing and mesh on my gears. any info would be great.

    you need to reset the backlash on the ring gear

          i did last thursday but i had 27 spline axles and a 29 spline locker, we made a mistake i knew 96 and older xj's had 27 and 97 newer had 29 but my jeep was built december of 96 so i checked my axle tag ran the #'s and it should of had 29's but dident. but i got a set of 29 spline axles and now i wanna do it. i dont have much money so i cant pay the shop to do it right now but i wanna get it in.

                      If your reusing the same Ring and Pinion you should only need to set the backlash.
                      And those are actually really easy to set the backlash on.
                      No shims they are threaded. I have a special tool that fits down the tube to put a wrench on to turn the nut but a punch and hammer can also do the trick.

                      What kind of locker did you get? That axle has C-Clips will you be able install the C-Clip or do you need a C-Clip eliminator kit?

                          its a detroit locker "full case" i have c clip axles and i will be reuseing them. and the bearings are already installed on the carrier. anychance you might be available this weekend to give me a hand wit your fancy tools. ill make it worth your efforts $$/lunch/beer????
