took my jeep for emission today.. ...they would'nt test it cause i changed my dashboard and the vin is from my 96 cherokee. not for my 88 comanche, they made a call and the state told them not to test it, even though the vin tag on the firewall is correct. i tried to explain its part of the dash and when you change it it goes with it. should i have just put reg rivets on the old vin instead of the square ones ? Would it have given me the same grief? i made a call to emission central myself and he told me never to touch the vin blah blah blah and he told me to contact regular dmv branch about gettin it inspected and vin verified - then they will issue a new vin to the truck. now has anyone gone through this ? my truck will obviously not pass a state inspection with wide tires cut up fenders etc etc.... anyone have any advice ?

Take the old vin and put it over the new vin in the dash.

dang.... that fuckin sucks... uh.... probably gonna have to get the old vin plate, or make one? Get some thin aluminum and those letter / number punch sets and make one that looks legit?

Or , find someone who works at an emission place ( Plainfield shell has pretty cool jeep guys that work there ) and just pay them off or buy them beer or something ?

It's not too hard to make round rivets look like the star ones You got a dremal right? It's not like they are going to put a Micrometer on it.
I'm sure there is ways to make a legit looking VIN

You want to have to have the correct VIN and make it looks like it hasn't been modified so they don't have a reason to really look at it.

Just throw the original vin tag on...Im certified to test emissions..and we HAVE to verify that the vin on the truck matches the paperwork..I prob wouldnt care if your vin plate was glued in place...As long as it matched the paperwork and verified that it indeed was the 88 comanche that Im testing...
