i followed the wires...the shielding on em still exists and theres no short that i can see...the code comes up twice so i assume it is both down and up stream as that was the issue in the past. what the fawk!

my jeeps a 97 for the record. last time i brought it in with no CEL and all that good stuff they just aborted the test on me cuz i hadnt driven it to what the machine would allow

its OBD2. the numbers i posted are the codes the vehicle itself throws when testing it with the key on/off method... i referenced off of here: http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoECUcodes.htm

did you run a continuity (ohms) test on the wire? it could be broken or burnt up inside the jacket

My CE light is throwing codes for Po432 or something like that. Which is Catalytic converter efficiency. I bought the jeep with this code on, The guy said he didnt want to fix the problem because the precats and downpipe was like 400$. The guy worked in a shop and had a scanner on his laptop. He cleared the code and i went to get my emmisions done, It pasted with no problems. It came back on the next day.

I quess what im trying to say is just disconnect your battery or something so the code goes away, and get the emisions done. Its most likely that you dont have any actual problems with the fumes and bad emmisions. I have kinda gotten attached to the little funny shaped light, always with me on the dash.

its easy enough to make the codes go away. but there is a code that doesnt trigger the cel that stays in there for a few hundred miles after.

he needs to hope he doesnt throw the code within a few hundred miles if he tries that.

and his 97 has one cat. not a billiondy like the super new xj's

disconnecting battery right before emission test will cause the test to abort to to to many monitors not ready. will, do what i said with the scanner while driving around and getting the data ready if you need it to pass. I know a thing or two bout emissions

if you lived closer to eastern ct i could use mine and then test your jeep , but basically try and find someone that has a scanner like this

                          http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16309

Monitor Status and I/M Readiness to determine if vehicle is ready for an emissions test. I/M Readiness is an excellent function to use prior to having a vehicle inspected for compliance to a state emissions program

you need to find a shady garage that doesn't mind risking the $20k fine for fucking around with that nonsense.
