Starter upgrade?

My starter completely died today so i need to go pick one up. I have a 89 xj with a 4.0. Did jeep also mess with the starters on the later models? If i can't find the one for my spare motor, ill be going to the JY tomorrow to pull one, up to what years will work, and be of some sort of upgrade?

iirc the starter itself should be the same, but im not 100% on it
