  • Making a bastard pack.

So Ill be making a bastard pack on Sunday hopefully. Do I need to get a longer centering pin for stock leaves? Are they just grade 8 bolts? Do I need new leaf clamps? Can I get those at Autozone or something? Anything else I ned to know?

I'm pretty sure I remember a while back Drew was trying to make centering pins from grade 8 bolts. He said he had to grind the bolt head round in order for it to fit.

I have seen hose clamps used as leaf spring clamps and grade 8 bolts are fine. 5/16 should work.

ive seen this too but how good does it work? i would figure a hose clamp wouldnt hold them together all that well

I used regular hex head bolts and ground them down on the bench grinder.

I tried to find longer center pins, and the only way levines could get the size I needed was to order a whole box

I would just grind down the heads of some grade 8 bolts.

I used the allen cap screws they worked good and didn't have to grind em down

if you're looking for center pins you might also want to check at Perraults in Waterbury... they might be able to hook you up

This. Is exactly what I did because one of them snapped and it was too late for any of the parts stores to be open. Worked perfect still no problems
