  • exhaust question

my first mod like 4 years back was a FM40 exhaust on the WJ i now have this after today and its loud as fuck:

will a simple little elbow/turn down make it alot quiter or not really? do i need to get a new exhaust done from the muffler back?

Isn't it not safe to have this just dump off under the jeep?

I just put a 3" Magnaflow cat and FM70 on my WJ with a turn down, no issues yet and I like the sound. Not sure if the turn down will quiet it down or not, but its a good idea to have one regardless.

I ran the same setup, the turndown will make it slightly quieter but honestly although i liked how it sounded, after I put the pipe back on I'll never do it again. And I could never quite get the tip to not point at my axle housing

i like my exhaust nice and quiet. A turn down may make it quieter since it is not trapping the noise so much in the body area

it's not that bad. mine dumps right after the axle and the only time it's ever noticable is if you're in an indoor place like a parking garage with no wind

i like quiet jeeps with as much of an exhaust as possible

but i have had my exhaust turn down right after the muffler before. not sure how the hangers are set up on a wj offhand. but be sure to use as many as possible or else it will bounce around and possibly crack/separate.

Mine is a Thrush turbo style muffler with a turn down before the axle. not loud at all but gives it a little deeper tone. speaking of that i need another hanger....

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

yea i agree it isnt really safe to have it under the jeep lke that but i plan on fixing it its only temporary, i have my trunk area closed with a tarp and cover for now...

so you guys think if i add alittle downward/angled bend elbow itll muffle the sound a bit..its not even the sound im mostly concerned abuot its the rumble/vibes it gives with low rpm it sounds like a boat...i kept my exhaust i cut off and the hanger so i can come up with something does like autozone or advanced sell little elbows and whatnot? kidn of want to get this done asap

i still have the muffler and everything its cut off about 3"s after and yes it bangs on my tc skid lol

yea its a Flowmaster 70 muffler with Manaflow Cat, all 3" with 3" turndown. I really like the sound of it. It's not to loud, but gives it a nice deeper tone. I cheaped out tho and didnt get the exit pipe, which I will eventually get from Kolak down the road or have a local place bend me up a pipe. It just seems to unfinished to me.

alright picked up a turndown tip from the parts store got it on just now and it sounds alot better but does anyone see a problem where it is for the time being? its about an inch or a tad more from the axle tube:

i dont think the exhaust fumes get hot enough to melt a brake line or anything correct? i still need to put another hanger on it bangs on my skid plates when i hit a decent bump..im gonna see if i can make something happen this weekend maybe shorten the pipe before the muffler...
