i can get a 44a for $75 in CT
R&P - $257.89
install kit - $175.19
labor- ~$300-$400? i forget what i paid last
-------------------------
$908.08 not including if it needs new brakes/rotors etc and i have material for a truss/skid..from what i remember the guy who did my gears was able to get deals on gears so it may even be cheaper...also an aussie will be ~400$ for the 44a unless i find a used one..you guys think an 8.8 will be alot cheaper? i think itll end up being alittle more trying to get it to work
can also sell my geared 35 maybe for cheap and it also has a ruff stuff cover lol
alloy usa also has aftermarket shafts now for this axle as well so if i do want to run 35's in the future i can...im debating on just keeping my 35 and wheel like a bitch until i want to spend alot of money to run 35's and regear both axles again?Last edited by lakailimited06; 02-18-2010, 12:17 AM.-Jason

i would do an 8.8 any day over a 44a no questions asked. An aussie for an 8.8 is only 220 dollars and you can get it with 4.10s already1996 xj, waggy 44 front 5.13 gears aussie trussed, 3 links, 3.5" coils, spooled 8.8 rear, 38" tsl sx's, tnt front bumper, jesus freaks rear bumper, Olympic top hat roof rack, bunch of dumb shit

ive snapped dana 35 on 31" tires so i think that they are not worth putting any money into. Go with the 8.8 from an explorer with the 4.10s non lsd w/ 31 spline axles
c-clip elim kit 130 dollars
aussie 220
home made truss and bracketry probably around 110
460 dollars
so that stuff is almost the same price as the aussie for a 44aLast edited by Magilla; 02-18-2010, 12:35 AM.1996 xj, waggy 44 front 5.13 gears aussie trussed, 3 links, 3.5" coils, spooled 8.8 rear, 38" tsl sx's, tnt front bumper, jesus freaks rear bumper, Olympic top hat roof rack, bunch of dumb shit

have to agree with rj on this one....
dana 35's are not worth putting a dime into, yea chromo 30 spline shafts may be strong enough for 35's, but what about the rinking dink ring and pinion. it will undoubtedly explode.
8.8 may cost alittle bit more, but is by far the best option here.No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

One of my comrades is on his 3rd d35, he's on 33"s and all breakages occurred on the street... I would not, and will not ever trust the d35
that said, the 8.8 is the way to go, I helped Erich (4bangertj) put his in, and it is a sturdy axle.
He bought the axle for 600$, with factory 4.10's, disks, and the PO had welded all the bracketry updirty30

I'm going to be building one for my buggy, I can always build another one.
I'm just waiting on a housing my friend he is located in Vermont so it might take a couple months till he comes down and then money for the shafts and brakes.
That is why I asked for a center housing a while back but didn't get any responses.
Recipe:
HP 60 center you can always buy that new but I don't have the money. cheapest I found was $500
35spline TJ axles (Ten Factory has these on the shelf.)
outer flanges I'm going with the 8.8 flange they can fit the Set20 bearings TJ use the Set10. so just a little bigger OD.
Then I plan on using the 8.8 brakes I believe they should work same bolt pattern and style. If not I'll go with TJ flange and TJ brakes.
I have center housing pucks, material to make the outer pucks and the rod to align the axle so it shouldn't take long to build the axle. Just need tubing and a couple welds.
It shouldn't cost that much more then any other built axle. And it matches the front.
So does anyone want a HP60 rear??
I also have a empty TJ 44 for measuring axle length, the axle is going to be a little wider because the D60 carrier is wider.
The front I'm going to swap a HP D44 housing into a Dana 30 they use the same shafts just the Ring gear will be bigger and it will allow me to go down to 5.38
I think that is going to be a good combo for a light buggy. Full 60 are just so heavy.RCrocs #123 Brown CJ-5
