  • Coil Question

Heres the deal. i took my front coils of the XJ today and when i was putting them back in the passenger side went in easily with the coil compressor. However the drivers side wouldn't compress enough to seat the spring on the perch. So i hammerd the bottom of the spring, and it just sorta bent outwards and slid right onto the perch then bent back to normal once it was seated.

Is the coil supposed to be able to bend enough to slide around the bottom of the perch and seat to it?

Off topic but, would the front drive shaft stop the front end from dropping all the way? Before i used the coil compressor, i tried to drop the frontend down to the ground and just pop out the spring, but couldn't get the front low enough. shocks were unhooked also.

What else is still hooked up?

My bet is on your track bar, CA's, or steering limiting the droop. The driveshaft shouldn't be the issue.

all steering was undone, trackbar was undone also. the only thing hooked up were the drive shaft, and upper and lower CA's

Edit: i didn't think that the CA's would stop it

i already did what i needed, but i wanted to drop it enough to pull the coils without using a compressor

O try jacking up the end of the axle to get some more room.

future reference, once you drop the axle as far as it will go, use a jack and jack one side of the axle up, it will cause the opposite side to flex and the spring will come right out no hassle.

Thank you, i was asking this as a future reference. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of putting the CA's back on, to find out i didn't have to
