Ok...so i was wondering somethings about this axle....one, i think its a direct trade for my 2000 Cherokee. but i wanted to know what gears would most likely be in it, the 87 is a I6 auto. Don't know anything else right now. just wanted some basic info. What should be don't to an axle before swapping it in?

If i'm right you could get a 3.07, 3.55, and a 3.73 ratios are all possible. I don't believe there are ones that came 4.10.
my first xj 44 was out of an 88 with a 4.0 with an auto trans and had 3.55 gears, and was a direct bolt-in for my jeep with the AW4 (auto tranny)
The 44 i have now was out of a comanche, i believe that manche 44's can be found with 4.10's but good luck with that, and you have to move the spring perches, meaning the comanche 44's aren't direct bolt-in.No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Well some person on jeep forum just was like
"my friend in Bristol has an xj d44 out of his 87 cherokee, he will give you the whole jeep for $500." So really if needed i would just take the gears out of the front...but i cant see myself going through with getting this because to my parents its another car, not just a part.

ive seen them with 3.07s as well
but theres around a 89.5% chance it has 3.55's
check the tag on the cover
count the number or pinion rotations vs tire rotations
count the gear teeth
