When i step on the gas acceleration sucks and goes nowhere.

    Background
Nearly killed my jeep crossing the rockies. Tranny was smoking.
I went wheeling today and it was fine then i went to floor it and there was very little acceleration going on.

tranny toast? isnt there some cable running from the TB to the transmission that has some input? thoughts on that?

Im pretty sure im just going to end up putting a newer engine transmission in this thing. its only money right.

the line to the tb is the kick down cable you can try adjusting it by pushing the button on it and opening the tb to wot release the button then release the tb.

Next before we go any further take it for a ride and manually shift it and see if it is any better and report back.

    also check fluid

shift it manually and let me know what it does like when at a stop put it in 1-2 and so forth.

It is very common for aw4s to have shift solenoid problems and when you come to a stop it will not down shift into 1st gear making you take off in 2nd feeling like shit/ no acceleration/ barely moving.

i just checked it. shifts fine in drive. guess i just overheated her again. do you think a fluid change will make much of a difference after 2 pretty sever overheatings? i think im just gonna buy this local one. I have a gauge just havent hooked up the sending unit yet. But itll be a priority now.

It MAY help i would try it if it was me since it is a cheap and simple thing to do. If it works your back in business if not fuck it.

never is, but any oil can break down and loose its viscosity which means not as good cooling and lubrication which screws with the internals clogs, scorches and so on. if you do go the route of the swap i HIGHLY recommend adding this http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-112/LUBE...uid+Protectant

X2 on changing the fluid on an auto can severely change the way the trans functions. I changed the fluid on the GMC and the fluid was gross. a week later the trans was toast. If you have an auto, I recommend changing the fluid/filter at least once a year and if the fluid looks dirty, from what i have seen, youre better off leaving it.

and crosby, do you have a trans cooler? if not, find the biggest one you can find

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.
