  • 32's or 33's (didnt know where to post this)

    what would you guys do?

heres the situation, getting alittle bored on 31's but they have alot of life left so ill wait it out until they're shot meanwhile id like to plan ahead for my next lift and other stuff..

    heres where im at:

iro 3" with 3/4 spacers in rear
4.10s (dont ask what a waste)
    locked front
    D30/35
    rear adjustables

im definitely going with BFG ATs my next tire as im starting to drive alot with my current job and my next job...cant decide between 32x11.5 or 33x12.5

    32's:
    -CV shafts are at risk
-dana 35 may be at risk
-will get better gas mileage with the 4.10s than i am now most likely
-wont have to cut my fenders at around 4-5" of lift

    33's:
-CVs will more than likely break
-Dana 35 will more than likely break unless i baby the thing
-the 4.10s will probably be little to no use at all and daily driving may SUCK again
-no way im squeezing a 12.5" wide tire into my wells without trimming ( dont mind cutting fenders just if i can avoid it so be it)

im just looking for some advice on what you guys would do...im never going to run custom axles and 35's on this thing right now im just looking for something alittle bigger...

i wouldnt mind putting in a 44a and trussing/skid"ing" it since i can weld, but then i would either have to gear it to 4.10s or regear both axles AGAIN to 4.56...

also id probably end up getting alloy shafts made from dutchmans upfront with both setups since i dont want to snap CV shafts left and right when im wheeling 4 hours from home...

    sorry for the novel...

All the reasons listed aside, i dont feel like an upgrade from 31s to 32s is worth it. Very small difference. I personally jumped from 31s to 33s when i was in your shoes

ask yourself if you really need to toy with the hassle of upgrading if it really wont benefit you that much in the end

true, i also see it as like

31's ok with my setup i probably wont break anything unless im a tard or unless it was going to break anways

32's is pushing my setup but wont hurt my pockets to bad hell i stay at 3"s and just ttrim maybe

33's just looks like itll be costing alot of money and wont be worth it for ONE inch of ground clearance...

i may kick myself if i get 32's though lol something about 33's on a jeep idk

hrmmm that would be a tough choice for me as well. I went from stock to 31's to 33's on my XJ and loved the 33's offroad compared to the 31's. However, it was not fun driving on route 80 with stock gears. around town was decent and tolerable tho (well tolerable enough to not justify the cost of gears.)

Now, having owning and DD'ing a stock WJ I love how it is just stock and I would want to keep it as close to that as possible if I were going to lift it/put bigger tires on it. I like the tire choice of the mall terrains as well.

so, my verdict: 32's for street friendlyness and they should be ok on your current axles. However, I agree there is something about 33's, but if you want your Jeep to keep looking nice and not break as much then stick to the 32's.

          If that makes sense

in reality, it sounds to me like 31s are your ideal tires, as boring as that may be, haha

Almost everyone I talked to bought 31's and wished they had 33's. I went directly to 33's and couldn't be happier. (Unless I was on 35's) As far as the tech goes... I am sure people around here run that setup with 3.55 gears and 33's.

                    I'd go 33's mostly because 31" and 32" don't make much difference.

You only have like 2 choices in 33x10.5

                        BFG a/ts or BFG KM2's

I have been looking around cause I am in the same boat you are...I haven’t been off-road yet at all and really want to. Bought the Cherokee with 31's and there fine off course. but seeing as I have owned the jeep for 6 months and the only off roading I have done is veering off the road into the little muddy puddle about 3 feet wide on the way home from school I an hesitant about getting 33's. There are tons of options with 32/11.5 and I don’t want the really wide tire. Also, I don’t want to cut too much fender (don’t want to relocate the coolant bottle in the xj) cutting about 1.25 up front. Since I see so much street I’m going with 32/11.5 only got 3 inches off lift and can’t handle 33’s
Unless someone knows a place to get a 33/whatever that’s good on eh road for cheap???

no.. you have a few more. most interco tires are available in that size, and toyo MTs are made in 33x10.5s as well.

jay, stay on 31s until you can afford to put a 44 or 8.8 out back. doesnt mean you have to get a new axle in right away, just be prepared for an upgrade.

                            oh and 33s.
