a 4.0 from a 97 is not a direct swap to a 98 cherokee we found that out the hard way luckly we still had the oil pressure sending unit.. dizzy.. throttle body and one vac hose..but i now no longer have a nasty lifter tick

i think he mean's the wiring harness plug's, when i swapped a 4.0 from an older cherokee into my 95 grand cherokee i had to switch a few of the sensor's over and still have to tap a spot for temp sensor.

when i think engines i think engines

not engines with everything bolted on them with wiring harnesses galore.

97 is a bastard year for wiring.

what would be the ideal engine swap for a 89 cherokee? something found easily, inexpensive and not an insane amount of modification?

I need to get rid of this renix

a 91-99 4.0 in your jeep would require the wiring harness, all sensors, computer, and more headaches than its worth imo.

                  nothin wrong with a renix
