  • 4 hi light keeps gonig out

i have a 98 2.5 tj and i noticed while i was driving in 4 hi, the "4x4" light kept on going off or flickering. what's going on and how do i fix it? If the 4x4 lever is up in 4 hi but the 4x4 light is off, is it still in 4 hi or back to 2 wheel drive?

if you have a vacuum disconnect on your front axle that is what turns the light on, when you pull the lever and put it in 4hi it engages the vacuum system and t-case, and when the axle shafts are lined up right the ring locks them together, and turns that light on. vacuum hose could be lose

wouldnt worry about the light, my tj's 4x4 light stopped working for the most part, although it still stays in 4wd.

so the 4x4 light doesn't have to be on for the 4 hi to work, as long as the lever is up...right?

                  loller

who cares about the light, you put the lever where it needs to be. and do you front tires spin? if so.... your 4wd is working.

well the only time i have that problem is when it's snowing hard and i'm on 95 going about 40 so it's kinda hard to tell

They probably are... the linkkage to the T case is mechanical so if the levers in the right spot assuming theres nothing broken in your tcase and the linkage is adjusted right your good to go

don't think that has anything to do with the light, in earlier models anyway, cause when i had no linkage whatsoever in there the light would come on when i manually put it in 4 hi or low.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.
