  • LED headlight question

I want someone to tell me my logic is right or wrong. I want to jack a HUMVEEs head lamps for my jeep. The HVs run off 24VDC my jeep 12VDC, but LED lamps are running 5VDC. So it wouldnt matter what the vehicle is running correct? The lamps would just step it down, id just have to re wire the harness for the jeep set up right.

The stepdown will either come from a series of resistors or a stepdown transformer. If I was to take a guess at this, it would be a set of resistors via a voltage divider. LED's need at least one resistor (usually around 1Kohm) before the LED because they cannot take full voltage from a 12 or 24V source. If you put 12V power to the LED's they would be dimmer on your Jeep then the HUMVEE (about 50% dimmer).

So what if I just changed the resistor to say a 500ohm. That would compensate for the brightness loss.
