  • Changing Manual Transmission and F/R Differential Fluids

So since I've owned my Jeep I've never attempted to change any of the fluids besides the coolant and the oil. So before winter really hits I'm thinking of changing the tranny fluid and differential fluids this weekend. My axles aren't built, they are stock. What sort of differential fluids/transmission fluid should I use? Also any advice for what to use to seal back up the differential covers as well as an oil pump to get the fluids into the differentials and tranny? I did a quick search but yielded nothing as far as a "how to" goes...can't hurt for the newbies to save themselves a couple bucks to have this information out there right?

The diffs are fairly easy, undo all the bolts..pop the cover and let it drain..take a razor and clean up both surfaces of any remaining silicone..At my dads shop we use a silicone called "the right stuff" that comes in tubes that you squeeze from a gun..I use it on my diffs and never had a problem..As for the fluid..normal 90 weight diff fluid should work just fine since your not running lockers or anything..you could spend a little more money and get like royal purple 75-90 diff fluid..thats what I use...

As for the tranny I'm not sure because I havent had to change fluid in a manuel...If anything theres prob 2 plugs on the side of the acual tranny..a drain plug and a fill/check plug...but im not totally sure..and i know I put synthetic ATF in mine, I can find out for you at my dads shop.

Deal, what are you doing Sunday? That's when I'm thinking of wrenching. Also, how much gear oil/tranny fluid am I going to need to get this job done?

Monday I work at the bar unfortunately but I've got nothing going on all day Sunday day or night...so Sunday is ideal. Shoot me a text later and let me know about how much I need of everything and I'll grab it.

I have a garage behind my house, but I'm not opposed to driving to Armand's dad's shop. Either way works for me. As long as we are all on the same page. Maybe we can look at the lousy negative camber on my passenger side if we get it up on a lift.
