  • Un-failing a unibody

OK. I know Sam had a thread on here, but now its my turn. As some of you know, its bented.

As evidenced by pics, outlining that it did indeed happen:

I know someone mentioned having a tool to correct this? Some kind of frame de-failer machine? Is that something that could be made available via beer or good intentions with a golden heart? The bend isnt TOO bad i dont imagine, but then again i dont know anything about frame straightening.

      1. Cut front crossmember out
      2. Jack low side uniframe rail up to straighten as much as possible
      3. Replace crossmember with something beefy
      4. Plate uniframe rails front to back

Didn't this suggestion come up in your previous thread?

i didnt have a previous thread, it was just referenced in my build thread...

plus i recall the frame machine being referenced in sams, which seems like a good idea to me

            OIC

Yea I wasn't saying it was a bad idea, but I do think plating of the frame afterwards is a good idea regardless.

i dont have a "frame machine"

but i have anchors built in my garage floor that could be used....

Stick jackstand under drivers side bumper, stick some under unibody rails by the stock lca mounts.. anchor the rear frame down... and porta power the pass side bumper down.... might work.....

you might need a bit of heat to achieve what you are looking for, you wouldn't want to try it without as you might crack it, i'm not sure on how flexible the frame/unibody is but with heat you won't have to worry about crack it.. thats just my 2cents
As far as anchoring it to the floor and using jack sounds like the bst plan i've heard yet.. this combine with a little heat might do the trick !

i usually use heat to do this, but thats with actual frames... im thinkin the sheetmetal should have no problem forming back. will if ya get some time.. try and see where the frame might be a lil out of wack.... im just trying to keep it as simple as possible
