  • who knows car audio here?

im having some trouble figuring out what type of amp i need to enhance my audio system, im going to be running new leads off all my 4 speakers, im adding the infinity door tweeters and im also going to get the 8 inch sub kit for the cargo area, im not going to run anything over 500 watts and im not looking for BOOM BOOM sound, i just want an upgrade, but i dont know what im supposed to choose for all those speakers. 4 channel, multi channel, dual amps? i dont know much about how that stuff works. basically id be running all new lines off all the speakers to the amp(s) and run the FR, FL, RR, RL, and Woofer RCAs back to the amp(s). any help? please? anyone?

if you listen to hardcore or heavy metal like i do ,you should only need just the 4 door speakers and a single 10" sub running off a 300w amp , the key is a good head unit and a sub that can handle the amp. id recommend going w/ rockford fosgate for speakers and sub cause they are good quality and can take abuse. no need for the tweeters cause you'll get the highs you need from the door speakers. as far as the amp goes you'll only need 400w for what you want . if you want help w/ installation or the components, ive got a buddy that owns a shop in meriden who can hook you up(for speakers and more) PM me if you want help w/ this . i think you work in wallingford,no? on rte 5? if so let me know...

yeah i do, dont be confused though, i work at auto zone and theres another guy with a jeep that looks very similar to mine that works at advanced auto. so basically id be looking at a 4 channel? or would i still need more, im still lost on that part. and im looking at that 8" sub kit that goes in the pocket on the passenger side of the cargo area

        http://www.quadratec.com/products/74136_700.htm

and as far as the tweeters go, theyre the infinity sound package that came on some of the jeeps, so i figure ill just pop em in for good measure, im not gonna bother changing out the tweeters for better ones, but i was watching a video and the guy was using some sort of module to send the lows to the front door speakers and the highs to the tweeters? so that would eliminate those 4 channels down to 2 channels, then 2 for the back then 1 for the sub right? i saw a 5 channel amp on bestbuy.com, is that what id be looking at or am i still confused, hahah thanks for any help fellas

do you all ready have the door speakers or are you buying new ones cause you want a 4 channel amp to mach the door speakers. and for the sub since you are going with 1 sub get a mono channel amp. also when you buy the amp try to get the continous rating from the amp to match the sub or be higher alot of amps are rated at peak power not continous.

                ok.

dont bother wiring the stock tweeters up.. unless you buy mid-bass speakers for the front doors (ones that would come in a component setup) itll sound bad unless you make a custom crossover.. blah blah. so just dont worry about it.

dont use the sub in that qtec kit, it sucks. if youre really set on that box, make sure you seal it up very good bc it will rattle to hell. any good 8" is fine. youll want something quality bc you need something fast for metal. my MTX 8" is actually pretty good at keeping up with quick drums. my 10" polk momo sub ROCKED though.. i suggest polk, infinity, boston... but that box isnt that great but yeah.

for an amp, you can get a 500W 5 channel amp and run each speaker and then the sub with 100W.. thats my setup in the subie and it sounds great. its a rockford fosgate 500W RMS 5 channel amp.

i had a set of MBquart 4 1/4 doors 1" tweets and crossovers in front, kenwood 3 way 6x9 rears runnin off a alpine amp. MTX 10" off a eclipse ea2000 mono. alpine headunit. custom box. shit was mint sounded awsome.

the ranger currently has the same headunit, sub/amp, 6x9's but no amp on the components. not really needed cuz the cab is so small the headunit puts out enough power for it to still sound great.

zach like i said ill help ya out i got that mono amp, well get together and do it up.

I have eclipse components in the front, JL audio in the sound bar and two MTX 10's in the back. Alpine amp powering the back speakers, head unit powering the front, and another alpine amp powering the subs. Shit sounds good, but not as good as my old setup in my integra. Alpine headunit, apline type s components front, alpine type s coaxles in the back, two alpine type s 12"S everything powered by two alpine v12 amps. I love the sound of 12's over 10's, but 10's is what fits in the back nicely.

I run Alpine Type-R 5 1/4" components in the front with the tweeters flush mounted and 5 1/4" Type-S rear replacements out back. I am running a Sony Mono Class D amp to a Older 12" Type-S sub in a custom box made to fit it that cubby. It sounds great and doesn't take up too much space. I want to redo the box to save a little more space, but it isn't a huge priority. I also was going to get a new amp that was small enough to either go under the rear seat or on the underside of the box.
