  • What to do...

So i was thinking about putting my sound system back in the TJ today, and find myself at a loss as to what to do. I wanted to build a new box to house the sub and protect the amps i have. the obvious issue however, is that TJs dont exactly have much room to work with. The back seat takes up quite a bit of room, so normally i leave it out. However, it is nice to have the option every once and awhile to carry extra passangers. It doesnt happen often, but it does happen. the other issue is that if i make a new box that is meant to stay in there, that might kill my cargo room for wheeling. I have a rack for the back deck so thats not as big of an issue as it has been, but it is still an issue. only issue with that is that if i have the rack on, id like everything in the cargo area below it to be organized better so that its easier to get to when needed. something like tools being kept in a slide out drawer for example.

So I started to brainstorm a bit, and this is what ive come up with:

    A) Build a new box that allows for the stock rear seat to still be used when desired.

    B) Build a box that houses the sound equiptment and add a 3rd low profile bucket seat on one side and box off the other for storage.

    C) Build a box that takes up the whole rear and allows for easy access storage from the tailgate and houses the sound equiptment up front.

(stereo space in blue/cargo in yellow/seats in red)

Also, options A&B will make having my tailgate pointless.

what do we think? anyone else have something better? do tell.

I vote cargo box and no subs. Though the idea of a single rear bucket with more cargo/stereo space sounds nice.

I can always take the box out when i go wheeling too you know. in fact that would probably happen. most of the time theres nothing in the back at all. I dont wanna just throw the sub in there like i used to because without it being secured to the floor like the new box would be, someone could always just snag it.

and no sam, me likes the gangsta boombooms

What about doing a center console mounted sub? I think Jl audio makes a stealth design box(might be for a yj) that you could look at to get an idea and then mount the amps under the driver's seat since passengers get in and out of the other side.

I vote, you have me build you a box that not only acts as a dual seat, but has a flip up bottom for cargo, and space to house sub(s)/amp. And throw it on Q/D for easy removal

dont want to do the center console for 3 reasons:
                              1) they dont make one for a 12" sub i dont think.
                              2) I think a custom box would sound better.
and 3)I like having as much room as i can in that center console. I live out of it.

And Hippie, you're in this reguardless what we do. I donno what the fuck im doing building a box. come on!
