  • Suggestions to keep ride hieght down

first of all this thread will start it off

    http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showt...=1#post1012068

I dont wanna run 6-7'' suspension style and then 3-4'' tire hieght. any ideas on how i could set my rig up a little better and keep it lower.

How I want to set it up as of now:

Front: 78-79 Ford D60. SOA. stock springs
Rear: 14b. 52" Chevy Springs. Inboarded
Shackles where needed to level out. I want to be as level as possible, while maintaining as little lift as possible. I am also ending the build with 36-38's

    I am open to suggestions

talking front here, rear is easy.

to keep it low you will either need to keep it spring under axle or ditch the leafs.

im not too familiar with waggy front ends, but i know they are spring under axle and im guessing the leafs are already relatively flat. and one key to leaf spring life is not to let the spring pack invert too much. I would make a bastard pack and soa it with some flat stock leafs from another truck. might be a good idea to put an overload leaf in the bottom too to give the pack a "progressive" feel and help with axle wrap.

as for the rear you seem to know what you are doing, but im not a fan of inboarding leaf springs. sure its better for flex, but you lose stability.

you think it would be better to run the 52" springs and not inboard them (I know that at least running those and detering from the inboarding would help flex). SOA the front. and mix-match packs to level it out?

I am fully open to suggestions. I pretty much know how I want to set it up, but I am sure there's ideas, or a better way of doing things that I have over looked

I am now taking in the idea, of doing a TTfabworks shackle flip kit with new stock springs, and SOA the front with a new pair of stockers. If I have read correctly, it should sit me level, and hopefully sit me under 7'' of lift, which is still high to me. But I dont think I really have a choice doing the 1 tons. I dont really wanna keep it spring under once those are in, or I would loose ground clearance, no?

          1. spell height correctly
          2. do not, i repeat do NOT use those 8" skyjacker coils you have in your garage
I once had a 93 XJ, 4.5" o' lift, 33" TSL Super Swampers, 8.25 rear Detroit locked. 2,000 Lb Steering. Custom rockers, Sam's old Bumpah. Cherry Bomb BITCH. SOLD

            1. height was a typo, and when I edited it, it didn't show the change in the tech section.

            2. My rig is leaf sprung, but if I were to convert to coils, which I do plan to do some time in the future. 8" XJ lift springs DOES NOT equal 8" of lift on the waggy. The FSJ is way heavier, even if I did throw those under the front end, it would probably only next me 5-6'' of lift. If not less since they are already a little saggy, which would either level me out with the shackle flip in the rear or sit the front lower than the rear. Making me have to pull some leaves from the rear pack in order to level it out

you would kill those coils in a matter of weeks or months, they are not rated for waggy weight.

Just load up the entire rig with rocks and make some bulletproof door panel inserts ou of 1/2" steel... The extra weight should help... That's what jeepinjosh would do.
