Raw Gas in exhaust

I took the last month and a half to rebuild my motor since it had a nasty skip, bad compression, and was leaking oil from EVERY GASKET KNOW TO MAN!!

So I replaced all the gaskets, cleaned everything up, torqued everything to spec. Revomed all the smog equipment. Figued out most of the vacuum lines, I think. Set timing by putting my thumb over the number 1 cylinder plug hole, and cranked until the pressure blew my finger off the hole, dropped in the dizzy, which lined directly upto number 1 plug wire.

Now it cranks over, and runs under it's own power, as long as I am goosing the throttle. Once I release the throttle on the carb, it dies out on me. It also throws loads of white smoke, and my exhaust reaks of raw gas. I have spun the dizzy while it ran, and it did run better/smoother, but at the same time it threw more smoke.

Could it be a line to the carb hooked up backwards, vacuum line not set right, timing not completely correct?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I have to get this thing runnig and out of the garage by the end of monday. At this moment I don't pay rent, so I have to comply.

try checking to make sure your gaskets are on correctly. If the smoke smells "Sweet" than its antifreeze. Make sure brake booster vaccum line is on right.

is there a float stuck in the carb? choke opening correctly?

i dont have any coolant in it yet. So unless its coolant that was left in the block when I was doing the rebuild I dont think that could do it.

I believe everything is working correctly since I just had it rebuilt before this rebuild

not running it. just trying to get it to run at idle for at least a solid minute. i have water in it for the time being, which gets drained every night i stop wrenching, and the rig is kept in a heated garage. I dont wanna fill it up, and then have to drain it all out and waste it because i have to take something apart

thats what i thought. but i cant get it to run unless i sporadically goose the throttle. but i decided "eh, fuck it" i am gonna drop in steves motor, runs better, better ign. and carb. so cant really turn that down with the price i am getting it for

when i started the rebuild, the price for that motor was way more than i could afford at that time. so i had to decide against it, and just did the rebuild. Now, with the price i am getting it now for, i am not gonna pass it up.
