I'm looking to regear my new d44 and my current d30, and I need some 4.88's. Now I know gears aren't something to do cheap, but at 400 dollars the rustys gear special looks good, opinions? What else is everyone else running?

In all honesty I would never buy anything from rustysoffroad again. Gears is something that is expensive and I would not skimp on quality gears. Go yukons with there master overhaul kit. www.classiccityoffroad.com gave me a good deal. Remember you will need new cases or a full case locker that will work with 4.88s.

ive ordered from both classic city and www.completeoffroad.com, and i prefer complete offroad. faster shipping and the prices are a bit lower. the gears at complete offroad are all yukons but the prices are so low they cant list them.
x2 on everything else alex said

sorry to hijack a little but i was actually looking today and was wondering too and didnt wanna make a new thread.
would this be the best choice when i go to 33's? I was thinking about doing this over the summer, how would 4.56's be with the 31's?

I'm def going with complete, thanks guys, they're just about the same as rustys pricewise. My second question is should I get a new 3.92 and up carrier, Aussie and gears, or should I stick with my current lim-slip carrier and get a thick gear set? I don't have any experience with limited slip offroad so I'm just wondering if it's even worth keepingdirty30

My 2 cents.
Axles are never cheap.
Cheapest strongest way out is to spool it. Don't spool the front if you don't have hub locks.
I wouldn't use a limited slip off-road it will eventually wear out and be worse then a open diff. when they wear out they chattering on the road, and when the spiders break you will need a whole carrier.
I would go to Randy's Ring and Pinion you would get the best help there. I get all my gears and parts from them. I think if you tell them your from a jeep club they give you a discount.
Are you going to do this yourself? You have all the tools? case spreader, axle puller, a press, etc.
I would let the place installing the gears buy the gears, that way if there is any problems they would have to deal with it not you definitely worth the $5 you would save.RCrocs #123 Brown CJ-5

Im going with Complete Offroad when I order gears. They have a better price compared to Classic City. Im doing 4.56 in my axles which will be low but w/e it will be better offroad.-Caleb

I would run the lowest gears you can live with. You will eventually go bigger tires not smaller.
The lowest gears will strengthen the rest of your drive train, i.e. drive shaft, t-case, tranny.
But crawl boxes are where the real low ranges are found.
4.56 with 31” will be like 4.11 with 28” like the 4cly jeeps have.RCrocs #123 Brown CJ-5

I literally just ordered my gears through Complete offroad. I ordered D30R/D44 gears, install kits, and Carriers all for $507 shipped to my door. He gave me the D30R/ D35 package deal but substituted for the 44. He said they should be shipping out today if they still have them in stock, if not Wensday. Very nice people, Highly recommended.-Caleb
