  • jeep struggling to stay started

okay the other day i went to bring a friend of mine to pick up his car at a dealership and when i got back in my jeep and started it up it struggled to stay started. i sat under 500rpms and when i hit the gas it sounded like my motor was going to blow. and then tonight i was leaving my house and when i started my jeep it did the same thing again but this time the security key light came on, but it didnt struggle to stay started it just shut off. so i tried to start it again and it started right up no problem. i was thinkin the ecu might be shot but ive been wrong about things like this in the past. please help me!!!!

could be a coil, crank sensor, map sensor, fuel pump, quite a few things... Does the check engine light come on when it does this? Can you describe what "my engine sounded like it was going to blow" means? Was it miss firing? More info please

there was a knocking sound like a bearing was bad. i dont think it was miss firing. its kinda hard to explain because once the motors some what warm it stops. the check engine light was already on before this happend but the code from that is "main cataylist below threshold". why would the security key light come on?

I had this exact same issue with my 04 Acura TL, I mean were not comparing apples to apples here but maybe it will help. Turns out the Air Conditioning overflow leaked onto my PCM and caused the security light to stay illuminated. Fried the PCM and stranded me 160 miles from home in Manchester, NH. But then again, my car wouldn't even start, it would crank but wouldn't engage the fuel system because the 04 TL's like many Acura's and Honda's has an immobilizer system. Good luck.

I would clean the IAC and see if that did anything for starters

Carb cleaner also helps get your motor started after dunking your Cherokee in a 4' deep puddle, right Mike?
