  • Cheapest, Easiest Disc Conversion For XJ44

ive been trying to research this but every site tells me something different.

i have heard exploder, crown vic and zj setups work, but i cant figure out which one is simplest.

i like the idea of the zj discs because i know at the local yard there are 456 of them so the parts would be cheap, but ive heard there are issues

any straight answer would be much appreciated, thanks

    if you can weld

you can do monte carlo calipers with chevy weld-on brackets for like 40 bucks plus the cost of the rotors (gonna have to do some research to find rotors though

i can weld, poorly, im still in the learning phase, but i was hoping for something a little more bolton, i dont mind drilling, tapping, cutting or other means of part destruction, but i dont feel comfortable enough with my weld to says the monte brakes are a viable option

I think you're going to need to weld no matter what.. I have never seen bolt-on disc brake conversions...

they use zj brakes and no welding, but the only issue is then i have to have the spacer machined. im thinking about just going the monte route and having someone weld the bracket on for me

i'd go with the 8.8 disc set-up, i was going to do the zj disc brakes on my 44 but the rotor is smaller than that of an 8.8. I figure if i was going to go threw the trouble i'd make it worth my time, go with some bigger discs ect.
this is just my 2 cents....

if you want e-brake you can use caddilac eldorado calipers

when looking for brake rotors be sure to get either a rotor with a thin mounting surface or get longer lug studs

Do the eldorado calipers work on the same bracketry as
the Monte Carlo set up? I do need ebrakes as I dot have one now and it's hard on the pawl

your issue is you have the 5 lugs, so you will have to do some research and find some 5 on 4.5 rotors you could use

as for the emergency brake, i was really looking forward to having one, but could never get them to work properly, some people have had great luck with it and they work amazazing. i have no idea what i'm doing wrong, but i spoke with sierra drifter on jeepforum who did the same conversion and he has the same issue as me.

also you need to regularly use the e-brake with the caddy calipers. thats how they adjust
