  • Loud Pop

When in 4wd, ONLY 4wd...I get a loud pop, loud enough where you want to duck for cover because you don't know what the fuck is coming at you. It sounds to me like it's coming from my front drivers side (which means nothing because I can never tell the placement anything.), I've had the Ujoints checked by numerous people with mechanical know how, and they all say it looks fine.
It was more than once, it did it most when I attempted a large sandy hill, it popped numerous times the whole way up.
Any ideas? I'd like to get all the issues squared away on this son of a bitch.
Is it egg nog season yet?

x2 on the chain. when vinny's slpoded it would pop and spin out of gear for about a week until it completely failed and everything just spun in there and did nothing.

Maybe a blown spider in the front too but I would think its unlikely.

            Adam --
His did that out of 4wd?
Because mine only happens in 4wd, and you can hear the chain is loose, when jacked up and turning the driveshaft, it's just not INCREDIBLY bad.

all gears, and it was a 242.if the chain is streched, you will hear it in 2wd as well, but its just essentially 'dragging" along the bottom of the case if its stretched enough. you have a direct drive from the tranny to rear output shaft in 2wd with the 231, so nothing might not seem out of place in 2wd.

Definitely the chain, I've changed them in 3 transfer cases mine and two friends, all with the identical issue, mine had notches worn in every link it would slip all the time. The way i knew is when i jacked the jeep up it had that same dragging sound on the bottom of the case you could literally hear the slack.
