  • Ujoint replacement.

How do you take a U joint out of a driveshaft? How do you put it back in? Anyone know of a write up?

Easy if you have a vice. You will need a hammer and a socket the size of the cap.

        no need for that.

use needle nose pliers to get out the e-clips, put the drive shaft in a vice or between 2 pices of wood so you have space under the u-joint. then get a socket that fits inside the yoke on the drive shaft and hammer the u-joint out.

very simple and takes under a minute open vice so you can lay 2 caps of the old u-joint on each side and so the yoke is between the vice, hit yoke really hard, and watch one cap come out, repeat after fliping whole assemble 180 degrees then put the new u-joint in, should take you 2 min max

getting the old joint out can be a real pain in the ass.... but don't rush putting the new ones in, if you're not careful one or more of the roller bearings will fall over in the cap and it won't come together right. the easiest way to avoid this is to use alittle extra grease around the bearings, it'll ooze out when you press the new joint but helps to hold the roller bearings in place.

if u need help with it, i'll be around. i've done so many at this point i can do them in like no time at all.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.
