Anyone ever done one? Mine is on its way out and I want to replace it before I head back to school in September. I just wanna know how difficult it will be and if there are any tricks to it.

not bad if you do what youre supposed to, take youre time, scrape the gasket surfaces down really well, follow the manual to spec and youll be fine, also helps to have an extra hand on when re-installing the head as its heavy and awkward to lift and align into a lifted heep. also helps to remove and install the head/intake/exhaust manifold as an assembly. check yourself or have a shop check the mating surface for warp too2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited

they are not too bad the exhaust and intake can be a pain in the ass sometimes. keep every thing in order. clean everything well. torque the head to the right sequence and torque specs. get some swivel sockets they make every thing so nice.1996 xj, waggy 44 front 5.13 gears aussie trussed, 3 links, 3.5" coils, spooled 8.8 rear, 38" tsl sx's, tnt front bumper, jesus freaks rear bumper, Olympic top hat roof rack, bunch of dumb shit

only use a razor blade when cleaning the head surfaces, whatever you do don't use the little air angle grinder with the scotch bright pads. You will end up with a wavy surface that will never seal again.
No silicone on the head you don't want it to get in the oil passage and clog it up.
It is one of the easier heads. It is a push rod motor with hydraulic valves so no need to set valve timing or adjust valve clearance.RCrocs #123 Brown CJ-5

get a straight edge and a feeler gauge to check it or send it out to a machine shop. might as well do a valve job and valve seals while you have it off.Last edited by Magilla; 06-09-2009, 01:18 PM.1996 xj, waggy 44 front 5.13 gears aussie trussed, 3 links, 3.5" coils, spooled 8.8 rear, 38" tsl sx's, tnt front bumper, jesus freaks rear bumper, Olympic top hat roof rack, bunch of dumb shit
