  • Brake line fitting question

The 01 has the extended brake lines installed on it. I drove it home about 50 minutes without any brake problems. However, as I started to double check everything due to registration, I noticed the piece shown in the picture below.
    Couple questions...
The top piece clearly has no hose leading to it, is this allowing air to get into my brake lines? If it is, why hasn't it failed yet?
Other than that, i'd like an explanation as to the purpose of shown piece.
    Thanks.

Is it egg nog season yet?

breather line to vent the axle tube. just lets the axle vent air.

should have a hubber hose running to a fitting on the unibody rail to the left of it if ur lookin at the back of the jeep

    aka from the pics perspective.
