  • XJ Leaf Spring Bolts

Just about ready to install my bastard pack leaf springs. I'm figuring with the rust under my rig that I might need to cut the original leaf spring bolts off.

Anyone know the specs on these bolts?

Would like to purchase new ones prior to disassembly. Available at local hardware or Lowe's/Home Depot?

spray them down with pb for a few days then break them loose with socket and breaker bar. mine have looked bad and i have managed to get them out.

u bolts can be had almost anywhere... autism zone has them, lowe's has a great hardware section and should have them. anything grade 5+ is good, D35 is 2.75" 8.25 & D44 is 3"

I'm thinking he means the ones that go through the bushings and hold the packs to the frame. But I could be mistaken.

Right on - the ones that go through the bushings is what I'm interested in.

Yeah, if you wanted to spend your life savings, a grade 8.8 14mm bolt works great and is way cheaper, just get the length youneed and bam, your done. I just put new hardware in my 99 when I redid the leaves yesterday, it's not worth going to the dealer IMO

x2 grade 8 from a hardware store is the best way to go

They rape you too for no additional cost!

I used a socket head bolt (allen key) since all industrial socket head bolts are grade 8 (rated to 128,000psi tensile)

                      NO.

Class 10.9 is a metric -> SAE grade 8 equivalent.

8.8 is the metric equivalent to SAE grade 5.

8.8 is not acceptable IMO to be on a jeep suspension or anything experiencing a load. Ive broken many, and not broken many grade 8s.
