Use trans assembly lube (grease that melts in the oil) or even Vaseline will work.
To glue all the little bearings on the center shaft together.
Make sure the forks are not pushing against the dogs in any position they should be free, bend the fork if you need to.
Shim the bearings until you have some drag, just like any other taper roller bearing.
If you leave the shifter pills out you can run rear low only front wheel only etc.
Or even put the front in high rear low.
Some people grind the shifter shafts down to get front low only for front digs, but I find it easier to just remove them.

The shims go behind the back cap that holds in the race of the front output.
Basically looks like a gasket.
Most likely be able to use the same one or take out a shim and make it tighter.
Both D300 I had I had to remove the shim the front output loosened up.
Look at an explode view.
