  • CPS or Fuel Pump?

    99 XJ/4.0/AW4

Jeep cranks and cranks no start. Odometer shows a no bus every now and then. CEL on. Can't establish a connection with the computer with my code reader.

Figured it was a CPS issue. Replaced CPS with another OEM CPS (that came out of my buddies jeep.)

    Still cranks and won't start.

Put my fuel pressure gauge on the rail, turned the key on, and the gauge read a steady 0 PSI.

No pressure. Don't hear the pump attempting to prime or anything.

Swapped ASD relay with fuel pump relay. Still nothing.

None of my instrument gauges work though.

Fuel pump? A multitude of problems?

sounds like a bad pump or wiring to pump. usually when you hit the key it will at least prime i, if youve got 0PSI that means obviously the pump isnt kicking over

but a dead cps will kill the fuel circuit, ask me how i know... wasted dollars and failing aftermarket fuel pumps from china sayyyyyy 4 times over because of a false diagnosis on the first go round

That's what I thought. I thought a bad CPS caused no fuel to go to the rail.

Didnt know if the fuel pump would still prime or not.

Think another OEM CPS and then go for the fuel pump? Is that spacer thingy the CPS sits on important? Mines in the bellhousing but it might not be flush.
