  • Codes P1898, P1694 & some other stuff

Best I can see is they are somehow related to the CPS and TCM?
I am a little in the dark on the TCM side of things.

Anyone have any insight on these? I finally have some time now that its the "slow season" at work to make my jeep work right.

    In addition:

The Jeep has had a rough running issue for a long time that I think I may have tracked to the TPS (code P0122)...and in the last year it developed a problem where it will randomly shut off and sometimes will not start up again unless you wait anywhere from 20 minutes to a number of hours. Cranks but no fire. Not sure if this is potentially related to any of the above, maybe the TPS.

    Its my 97 XJ.

Andy had that shut off deal one night on the way home from raush. He let it cool off and then it would run fine again. Think he ended up having a bad coil.

Is this Heavy? Pretty sure I tried swapping my TPS onto yours and it made no difference.

A friends ZJ used to need a nap sometimes before restarting. I believe CPS fixed it. No attempt to fire when turning ovef makes me think CPS also since we checked for good fuel pressure... no crank signal = no spark

I should clarify I'm talking about the crank sensor, not cam sensor.

                    Damn....

                    yes heavy

I replaced the TPS, MAP sensor, and cap and rotor today, no change in running.

CPS (Crank) is in the mail to get here tomorrow and I will probably change battery cables or battery next, the terminal needs to be wiggled more often than not to get it to start, gonna clean them of course first. slightly lower voltage than needed will cause rough running issues AFAIK. I also have mild backfiring in the intake when it stumbles and i give it a lot of gas to clear out.

no clue if the random stall out and no-start is fixed, it doesnt happen often and i dont know how to recreate it....so i guess we will see on that.

I had to really think to remember too... Heavy got probed from several directions that day

I've had poor grounds make some pretty weird stuff happen too. Worth checking battery and engine to chassis grounds.

so i put an epic die hard battery in it, changed battery terminals, changed the CPS, and the running issue persists.

i have the opportunity to get my jeep to JV and moab in less than a month and this is preventing me

anyone have any suggestions? to recap:

                        changed battery
                        changed battery cable terminals
                        changed ignition coil
                        changed MAP sensor
                        changed CPS
                        changed TPS
                        changed cap and rotor

Sometimes it will run a clean idle, more often than not it will run clean, then slowly degrade to a heavy stumble, almost stalling (after 30 seconds to 5 minutes of sitting there). if you give it lots of throttle itll clean out and sometimes backfire through the intake it seems. After it stumbles, it rarely runs consistently clean again for the time you use it. Sometimes it will idle cleanly for as long as you'll leave it, but (again, sometimes) if you rev it, itll go back to stumbling after.

The CPS may have fixed the stall out and no-start, but no way to recreate it and see.

Swap throttle body from heavy and that other thing you got? I know dave was plagued with some weird crap with a chafed wire so maybe test the harness. How many miles on this thing nowadays?
