Fixing rust spots

So I have about a 5 in hole under my rocker panel and would like to know the best way to fix it? I have some ideas but want to do it right.
Whatca got in mind?

cut the entire rocker out, weld in some 2x6 steel

If its goin to be a wheeler then use some box tubing. If its going to be a mall rig there are replacement rockers for $30.
