CB tuning?

I bought a new CB and hooked it up to an antenna I had laying around, but I really cant get a signal or talking. The squelch needs to be turned down all the way to get any sort of noise. Does my CB need tuning? How does one do this?

swr meter from radio shack, you run a line from your antenna to the meter, and then from the meter to the radio. Your antenna if its tunable, will have a screw in the cap on the top, you turn it based on the readings on the swr meter and its tuned.

any antenna is good, so long as your ground is good. dont waste the cash on a new antenna (firestiks suck btw) until you tune the one you have, bc thats probably your problem. i can bring my tuner to the meet if you cant make it to danny's and use his.

all antennas are tuneable. it either has a tuning tip or gets cut.

I rocked a 5 foot firestick for like 2 years..... all I ended up doing was putting a few more holes in my body, finally broke it's mount one day in the woods. I'll never waste that sorta money on somthing i can pick up at a truck stop for $10
