  • Lack of Oil Pressure

Afternoon, my sister has a 2003 wj and recently the gauge reports no oil pressure. There is also an intermittent ticking on start up too. Any ideas?

4.0 or V8? Oil level okay on the stick? Last time it was changed?

For a quick check also, pull the oil fill cap off and start the engine. look inside the valve cover and see if the rockers are spitting oil. If you can see oil getting to the top end that its most likely the sensor. If someone has a mechanical gauge laying around you can pull out the sensor and check for pressure. If you have pressure on a mechanical gauge, than install a new sensor.

cant remember if it pegs the gauge or drops it but i broke off a pressure sending unit once(right behind the oil filter) has like one or two wires going into it.

also make sure it wasnt overfilled recently. overfilled can cause the oil to foam, which will drop pressure.

obviously dont drive it till you figure it out, if the oil pump quick, the engine will break eventually

dont want the engine looking like this :
