  • Diffrence Betwen IFS/IRS and a Live Axle?

I know the difference between them, but my question arising within the gearing of IFS/IRS.

Can someone please explain to me how IFS/IRS gets power to the wheels? I know in a live axle the power goes from the transmission out into the Tcase through the driveshafts and into the differentials which spins the gears thus power.

Does IFS/IRS have gears or what? Is there a TCase in 4x4 IRS/IFS vehicles? I can't find a damn website that answers that question for me.

Is it even clear on what i'm asking?

just think of them as live axles but without axle tubes. instead cv shafts

IFS makes you go faster, allegedly.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Alright I think that makes sense.

So the cv shafts push into a differential on both sides and that's it?

pretty much. they usually have 3-5 bolts to hold it to the housing. then there are either A-arms or struts with a spindle at the wheel
