Ok...so I just finished doing an auto to manual tranny swap in my 4.0 cherokee...I have done one before for my camaro and everything was ok. This time around, I feel like i am having a clutch/pressure plate problem. Clutch kit is brand new.

When I engage in 1st gear, it catches almost right away, but then doesn't seem to stay caught or the clutch doesnt go back to where it should. it shifts fine other than that. When I do get to 5th gear, i am only going about 30 or 35 mph.

Would overtightening any bolts like the pressure plate bolts be the reason? I also heard it can be as simple as grease getting onto the disc somehow from the spline grease that i used. Any thoughts? I just seems as if the power going from motor doesn't all get to the tranny.
