  • are wheel spacers ok? opinions?

a friend gave me wheel spacers, another gave me 31 inch tires on the wider patterns rims, the spacers adapt them to my yj

im thinking of using them just for trailing, and keep my street tires on my current rims

    here are the spacers, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Wrangle...-/290648553479

While I cant speak for those specific spacers...there is NOTHING wrong with running wheelspacers. They require maintenance/proper installation just as with anything you do to a vehicle. I have ran wheelspacers since 2005 non stop and have never had a single problem that wasnt user error related (a friend overblasted them on with an impact years ago and i sheered lugs in the process).

A properly torqued/locktited spacer will function fine.

Anyone that tells you a wheelspacer makes parts wear out faster versus a "proper" backspaced wheel is a webwheeler.

The ones in your link appear to be pretty standard using 6061 and all that. Just make sure the lugs on your actual axle are long enough for proper thread engagement with the spacers on. With 1.5" ones I dont forsee that being an issue.

awesome, im just using them to adapt the rims, i don't need the spacing, Ive heard tons of bad stuff about people using them on cars though.

what do you mean by "adapt the wheels"?

the ones in that link are just 5x4.5 spacers/adapters

well there 1.5 inch adapters, the spare rims i have are 5 lug 5.5 rims, and the spacer adapts it to my yj,

What Will said. Haters will hate, but a properly torqued spacer is perfectly fine.

I have had spacers on mine for 3+ years with no problem and I am pretty bad at making sure they are properly torqued. I have an ebay set from this seller http://myworld.ebay.com/rigged.up/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

spacers are fine. I do prefer them to be hub centric, at least on the vehicle side, because I think it carries the load better instead of taking the leverage on the lug nuts.
That being said, I ran 1.25" spacers on my 400+hp drift car that weren for a couple years, and never had an issue.

Ok, i havnt ran my spacers yet, but got a set for my friend, and this happened after about 2 weeks, Broke 4 studs, made it off the high way and to work with one stud, im thining maybe they got over torqued, or the studs were just cheap as shizzle

studs dont just shear off no matter how cheap they are

over torque would be my guess or left loose/not loctited
