Great axle. 1.5" shafts like a 14b/d70. Not as much aftermarket, but they are also comperable strength to both of those also.
No carrier break, there is a pinion difference, pre I think 93. If you have the earlier you need to buy a yoke when you regear as all aftermarket gears use the better later model "long" yoke.

$100 average for the yoke. More than most, but I wouldnt call them expensive.
I had every intent of running one until I got the deal on my 70

Depending on what yokes you buy some are $150
I only built one of them. I just remember the yoke the guy wanted was a $150 so we went to a different yoke which was $100 since it was the old style gears the new gears needed a new yoke.

Have fun crushing that crush sleeve.

14 bolts are just more common and have a removable pinion support which is nice if you want to buy a pinion guard plus I believe 14bolts use adjuster nuts where ford uses shims outside the bearings annoying.

Either way 10.25" ring gear is beefy.

yeah 14 bolts are super easy to build. Still have to crush that sleeve though.
I like the sterling because its comperable strentgh, and the ground clearance of an already moderately shaved 14b. They are easily an inch shorter, or have an inch more ground clearance stock.
I believe they have bigger wheel bearings too. Which at that point it doesnt really matter with the weight of a jeep anyway, but FYI, oh and o-ringed axle shafts, which isnt shit, but it is nice being able to remove and install them without needing gaskets.
                        Dan.

yeah, if you do one, thats definitely the way to do it.
Im building a 14b at work right now. They are sooooo easy. Its so nice to work on one compared to having to shim a 60/70. and being able to change pinion depth in about 47 seconds. They are just soooo f-ing big.
and yeah, I am not looking forward to starting this crush sleeve, although we do have 500+ ft.lb. torque wrenches, so it shouldnt be bad.

if i were you i would look into a C&C 14 bolt so you dont have a wide ass rear with a narrowed front.
