  • yj no brakes!

im working on a 89 yj.

new rear wheel clyinders and shoes

front looks good ( good pads, calipers move)

the jeep was sitting for 7 years.

i can get the brakes bled using a one man bleeder and a vacuum bleeder.

the pedal feels just OK, once fully bleed. when the jeep is started, the pedal goes to the floor everytime.

i have enough brakes to stop, maybe about 25% of what it should be ( my 94 yj stops great )

    any ideas

I would try bleeding it with a friend to see what pedal you get out of it. Be sure to bleed it from the furthest wheel cylinder (from the brake master cylinder) to the closest caliper. If you still are getting nothing, I'd think about replacing the master cylinder. A cheap & easy upgrade is to throw an E350 master cylinder on it too.

If the problem only happens when you start it, the power brake booster is my guess. Sounds like when a vacuum is pulled it loses pressure.

i have bleed them 3 times, this was the order i was bleeding them in LR, RR , LF ,RF. initial bleed with vacuum to clear out old fluid, other two times with a bleeder bottle and second person pumping the brakes. ive bleed brakes many times and never had this problem. im thinking master cylinder, the owner is going to get one today
