  • Battery voltage

When driving, randomly/intermittently it seems my battery volt gauge will peg to the right, sit there for awhile, then eventually come back down to normal. It will do this throughout my drive repeating, mainly on a longer drive to somewhere like Rausch.

What would cause this? Seems it isnt just a gauge malfunction as my inverter hard wired into the jeep constantly faults I am assuming due to over voltage from the battery

Sounds like there's an issue with the internal regulator in your alt, that's the only thing I imagine would be able to overcharge your system.

    Need an alternator?

if that is indeed the problem, then i will def need an alt

as far as the no start...no idea. the coolant temp sensor was causing it to run rich/shut off we found. i assume that has to do with the no start as well

The voltage regulator is in the PCM. However I had a similar issue a couple weeks before OER. I replaced my alternator and it fixed it.

Check the battery while you're at it. If the alt. has been acting up, it may do some serious damage to the battery.

Armand had the same problem. Was loosing battery ground and loosing reference so the pcm would tell the voltage regulator to go max.
We replaced all the grounds with 2 gauge cable and made a new body ground stud. Fixed the problem on that.

The long start is usually a fuel pump or pressure regulator, but it could be a lot of things.

There not all in the ECM depends on year.

If that is the case might be better off buying an aftermarket 1 wire alternator if they offer them.

I have a 96 ECM if you need it
