  • need clearance! SOA YJ Helps please

hey y'all i had a fun weekend at a friends house, but i need some more clearance. im going to go soa on my 94 yj 2.5

has anyone done one. my homemade tcase skid has a 3 inch dropped from stock, i AM going to try to run the stock drive shaft ( but get it extended)

im worried about the front end, particularly steering wise

do i need a front track bar and sway bar?

    im thinking about this kit

and i think i would need new shocks and ubolts, anything else i would need to buy?

Your definitely going to deal with steering, springs will get in the way of the tie rod and drag link. Stock ds with no sye? Not gonna happen. Your going to need a anti spring wrap bar. I don't run track bars or sway bars, I plan ahead when driving, no sudden turns. I'll send you some pics of my set up.

your better off going with a RE spring under lift if ya dont want to deal with buying new driveshafts and getting a SYE...i will tell you from personal experience that doing a SOA conv. is not as cheap and easy as it sounds...id personally do a 3.5-4" SUA lift and chop the heck out of the fenders for clearance...just my .02

i have a 95 yj sith soa. you are going to need a high steer kit. i got one from teraflex with the one ton tie rods. its pricey but it looks cool and its hella durable. without doing the high steer kit you won't be able to turn right after the soa is completed. and you will have to get the sye. i personally like the soa but kracker is right. it would be cheaper in the end to just lift it.
95 yj spring over axle 4inches lift locked and winch
99 dakota sport used for dragging car trailer
        72 cuda with 383
98 xj that is prolly gonna end up in the tuff truck comp.
        01 blaster
        07 cr85 cuz why not

You get what you pay for believe me! if you went with the RE lift, you would actually net about 5" of lift....plenty to fit 35-36" tires with minor fender trimming and i mean minor...if you decide to get one of these and need a hand installing it...ill help you out no problem...

MOST of RE's stuff is now made in indo china so you best bang for the buck would be BDS as far as leafs go but the rough country is fine for the guy that doesn't plan on beating the snot out of his rig everyweekend in the trails

the RC lift would be fine for an entry level lift....its what i started with...and i had a blast...but dont abuse the hell out of it...but Tom is right...BDS would be even better than RE...RE has had QC issues over the last couple of years too

You can also rework your stock springs for SOA and spend saved money on the highsteer

I thought that would be the cheaper route, but it seems that soa eith stock springs and everything i need for steering will be 600+, and a 4 inch spring lift i think is going to be easier

just look at it this way... if you go soa itll be a few weeks before your wheeling at best... if you stay spring under youll be wheeling within a day or so... you decide, lol

spring pads are like $15 a pair on summit racing or speedway
you can probably reuse all your u-bolts and u-bolt plates if you really want but they are usually rusted.
If you use stock springs they will sag quick throw in an add a leaf.

You don't really need an anti wrap bar

You will need longer drive shafts. SYE or D300 with CV yoke should be a given.

While your at it you might want to stretch your rear back 3 inches not much work if the gas tank will clear.

For the tie rod high steer knuckle so the tie rod goes over the spring is really nice you can get away with a bent link you will want a dropped pitman arm.
brake lines are a give on high lifts.
it should be close to 5" lift.

There is a company that makes lifetime warranty leafs I forget the brand it is 3 letters.
I've bent a bunch of springs.

but all this work you are only a couple bucks away from having 1 tons it's all the same work you would be doing to go SOA but just using larger axles. if you get kingpin high steer arms are cheap.
86-92ish F350 KP driver side you just need to cut down the long side 4-5" pretty easy then it basically bolts in the rear axles are narrower to begin with there is a van axle that would be perfect I forget someone might know they are the perfect with.

You can find them with 4.11 gears and run that for a while.

I have one in my garage right now with that exact setup if you want to check it out.
                              actually pretty simple.
